My favorite book series is Maximum Ride by James Patterson. The first book
in the series is Maximum Ride: The Angel Experiment. I enjoyed this book
because it is interesting and it kept my attention. The five main
characters are: Max, Fang, Gasman, Izzy, and Angel. When they were
children a place called “The School” was in control of them. The School
experimented on animals and children and were trying to gain control of
the world. Throughout the book they go on new adventures, discover new
places and battle old enemies. This is a great book!
Love Story by Erich Segal. This is a complete chick-flick
type story about a rich jock that falls in love with a poor music
student. It’s a super short novel and the story itself goes so fast that
you’ll be finished with the book before you know it.
I think that my favorite book of all time has to be Freak the Mighty. It
is a wonderful tale about two totally opposite teenage boys who rekindle
a friendship that has been non- existent since preschool. As you read
along you will find that Freak (Kevin) and Max are the perfect friends
and you will enjoy seeing them both grow close through adventures such
as fighting dragons and running away from gang members. I think that
this is a great book with an ending that you won’t soon forget. I would
recommend this book to a teen looking for a quick read that will
captivate you.
Boomsday by Christopher Buckley These days you just can’t escape from the
political world, so why not embrace it in a fun, interesting way?
Boomsday epitomizes the term “political satire” as the main character,
Cassandra Devine, a blog addict, begins writing her own bill to secure
financial welfare for her generation by proposing “transition” tax cuts.
Otherwise known as tax cuts for the elderly willing to commit suicide to
release the financial burden on their young compatriots. Buckley’s book
screams “hear hear” for every person of Devine’s “Generation X” and is a
hilariously fresh, light point of view on the direction our government’s
morals are heading. Although this story is entertaining and will
literally make any person “LOL”, be wary of the fact that you may
accidentally end up readying yourself for a vocabulary test years down
the road.
My favorite book is titled Once upon a Marigold by Jean Ferris. This book
is about a peasant boy that was abandoned at a young age and raised by a
troll in the woods. As the boy gets older he wants to leave the woods
and goes to find work in the nearby castle. He falls in love with the
princess and later finds out that he is the long lost prince. They get
rid of the evil stepmother and later get married and live happily after.
It’s a typical love story with little modern twists and parallels to
classic fairy tales. It’s one of those books that leaves you happy and
smiling when you finish reading it. :)
Water For Elephants by Sarah Gruen This is a unique, rather eccentric novel
about a traveling circus. The main character, Jacob, drops out of
college and jumps on a moving train in hope of going West to find a job.
Instead, he finds himself in the performer’s cab of a traveling circus.
The book is about his adventures and experiences along the way, and the
characters he meets as well, who are all quite interesting.
One of the best books that I have ever read is Angels and Demons by Dan
Brown. This is the same author of the Da Vinci Code. This book is
extremely fast paced which leaves you wondering on every page up to the
very end what’s going to happen next. It has many unpredictable twists
that every time shock you. Dan Brown writes this book with extreme
intelligence and really makes you think about what you read. And, if on
the last page you like weird and funny endings, this is your book. I
would recommend this book to anyone, I couldn’t put it down and I had a
great time reading it and I hope you read it also.
A Company of Swans by Eva Ibbotson When I was done reading this book, my
first impressions were, wow, that was too much to comprehend. But then I
realized that actually it made perfect sense and it was wonderfully and
carefully written. You could call this a light horror book, mystery,
romance novel, travel book and many other kinds of books. It all depends
on your way of thinking. The book is a pretty intense read hopping from
one subject to another in one paragraph, and the book is written in a
way that you are always curious about what is going to happen next. Will
she be able to run away? Can she find what she is looking for? Will her
Dad, Aunt, or fiancé find her? Will she find a way to make amends with
the guy she loves?
In Agatha Christie’s Ten Little Indians, or y’know, if you’re feeling
unusually politically correct: And Then There Were None, ten people are
all lured to an island under different circumstances only to be accused
of a murder by an unknown voice. Soon after, one of the guests dies from
the poison potassium cyanide. Slowly but surely each of the ‘guests’ is
targeted, until, at last, there are none. However, because there are
only ten people on the island, one of them is the murderer, which causes
suspicion among everyone. The book has an unexpected resolution and
surprising culprit. It has to be one of the best mystery novels ever
written. So read it. READ IT! NOW!
Lemonade Mouth by Mark Peter This is one of my all-time favorite books I have
ever read. It’s about five outcasts of Openquonsett High School, Wen,
Stella, Olivia, Mo, and Charlie, who form the biggest rising band of
Rhode Island in detention, with their first song being a theme to a
dentist advertisement. So, if you like “alternative” rock n’roll, and a
story about lives of people like you, this is the book for you.
A series I suggest you read is Naruto by Masashi Kishimoto. In it a young
boy, Naruto, has been cursed with the spirit of a demon locked inside of
him. As he trains to become a ninja, he tries to gain the trust of his
villagers and the friendship of his rival, Sasuke. Naruto is a great
read and I would suggest it to anyone.
Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom is a must read! It is one of the best books I
have read in years. Most people would give up if they had to go through
what Morrie had to go through. Morrie’s quote, “Would you rather get
busy living or get busy dying?” sums up the book and also is the way
Morrie lives his life. This novel should be a confidence booster for
anyone that is going through a difficult time. For Mitch, this was also
a reality check; that even when you’re extremely busy, like he was,
there is always time for people that mean so much to you. Check out the
movie, too.
